I need help as quickly as possible. How fast can I get access to your information?

You may order on-line with your credit card 24 hours a day 7 days a week and get instant access to the List of Candidates. To place an order on-line, click here. You may also get instant access to the List of Candidates by calling us with your credit card or checking account information. Just call 1-800/759-9494 Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Central time. If you pay by mailing a check or money order, your access to the List of Candidates will begin on the day your payment is received.

Is your List of Candidates kept up to date?  I don't want a list of people that have already found jobs!

The List of Candidates changes every day.  We have a multi-level system for keeping the "dead wood" to a minimum.  When we do not hear from a candidate within a 30-day period, we contact them by email, fax, post card, or telephone to find out if they are still looking for a job.  If the candidate fails to respond, we remove the candidate from the List.  Because it would be impractical and annoying if we tried to contact all of our candidates every day to see if they are still looking, there are always some candidates on our active list who are no longer available and have not notified us.  Generally the "dead wood" is kept below 20%.

How do job seekers hear about Equimax?

More than half of our business comes from word of mouth.  We advertise in the largest general interest horse-industry trade journals such as Equus, Practical Horseman, Horse Illustrated, and Western Horseman.  We also advertise in most major breed magazines.  We are linked to key horse-industry search engines and link sites on the internet.

Are your clients large or small farms and ranches?

Equimax serves all sizes and types of operations -- large and small, public and private.  Because there are more small to medium size operations out there than any other kind, many Equimax clients fall into that category; however, our clients also include the largest and the most well known.

Do you "screen" your candidates?

All of the information on our List of Candidates is provided to us by the candidates and is not followed up in any way.  We intentionally do not screen either candidates or employers.  It would be prohibitively expensive and not very effective for Equimax to screen clients.  It is simply not possible to adequately screen anyone by telephone.  Employers are encouraged to investigate each potential employee carefully, whether they are found through Equimax or any other source.

What kinds of candidates do you have?

The most common type of people in the Equimax system are those looking for full-time hands-on work with horses, such as grooms, stable helpers, caretakers, trainers, riding instructors, breeding managers, and farm managers, but other types of candidates are also available.  We have people who are looking for administrative and sales positions, people seeking part-time and/or temporary work, and more.  To see some samples of our candidate listings, click here .

Are Equimax services available just on the Internet?

No.  There are three ways to receive information from Equimax:  postal mail, fax, and at our web site.  If you have easy access to the Internet, we recommend the web site service, because the lists at our web site are updated every working day.  You may also convert from one type of service to another (additional fees may apply), but you may only receive information in one of the three ways at any given time (to avoid confusion).  For a description of our services, click here.

Is it better just to subscribe to the List of Candidates or also to list my job on the List of Jobs?

We have many job seekers who subscribe to the List of Jobs but who do NOT appear on the List of Candidates.  So we recommend that you list your job(s) on the List of Jobs as well as subscribing to the List of Candidates.  In some situations, it may make sense for you to keep your search confidential by NOT listing your job on the List of Jobs -- for example, if you are trying to replace a key person in your organization or if you won't be available to handle incoming inquiries about your job.  However, not listing your job on the List of Jobs may reduce the effectiveness of the service.

Does Equimax ever provide information on its clients to other companies or third parties?

Absolutely not! We do not sell mailing lists to other companies. We do not supply any information about our clients to anyone unless you have given us permission to do so by including a Job Listing or a Candidate Listing in your order. Then and only then, we distribute just the information you have specified, and it is distributed only via the List of Candidates and the List of Jobs. Your privacy is our concern.

Will the Equimax system work for me?  Is there a guarantee?

The Equimax system works for lots of people, but not for everyone.  Using Equimax is similar to placing an ad in a magazine to sell a horse.  You pay your fee to the magazine for the advertisement, but that does not mean you are guaranteed to sell the horse.  It is possible to set yourself up for failure using the Equimax system.  If you are looking for a person that is extremely difficult to find, you are providing an unattractive job with inadequate compensation, or you cut corners in the hiring process, the Equimax system may not work for you every time.  On the other hand, if you are providing the kind of job that people are looking for, you have given some thought to making your job as attractive as you can, and you are familiar with the steps involved in hiring and keeping good help, we can be optimistic about you having people to interview through Equimax. Ask us to help you with the process.  We have the experience.

How successful are employers at finding the help they need through Equimax?

Many people find the help they need through Equimax.  We have many farms and ranches that come back to us year after year when they need help.  However, each employer's experience with the service is unique.  Some employers find good people quickly, others it takes a while, and still others don't find the people they need.  So many variables exist in the employment process that it is impossible to predict success in advance.  Sometimes we recommend just giving it a try to see what happens.  Maybe the right person for you is already in our system just waiting for you to subscribe.

What do other people say about Equimax?

All businesses have their critics, but people frequently tell us how much they appreciate the service.  To see what a few of our customers say, click here.

Where are the job seekers in your system located?

Job seekers from all over the United States use Equimax.  Our candidates are literally spread out all across the country.  We have a few that are located outside the United States or are non-citizens seeking sponsor employers. Some candidates may be quite close to your location.  Others will be farther away.

How do I hire a non-citizen?

To hire a non-citizen, you must apply to the U.S. Immigration Service to get a visa for them.  This can be a lengthy and involved process with no guaranteed outcome.  To read more about this process, click here.

Is there a best time of year to look for help?

Not really.  Equimax has a surprisingly steady flow of job seekers throughout the year.  Of course, people that are looking for seasonal work (like summer jobs) are more numerous at certain times of the year.

What is the biggest mistake employers tend to make?

Many employers underestimate the amount of skill and effort it takes to be a good personnel manager and successfully hire and keep good employees.  Being a good personnel manager does not come naturally.  It is a learned skill that differs from the skills needed to breed and train horses or to run a business.  Equimax offers resources to help you become a better personnel manager.  Click here for some on-line help, or click here for resources you can order from us.

How do I get advice on how to hire and keep good help?

We are here to help you.  Whether or not you order from us, we can provide you with resources and will try our best to answer all your questions.  To email us a specific question, use the link provided at the end of this page.  Click here for some on-line help, or click here for resources you can order from us.

What kind of information do you need to list my job(s) on your List of Jobs?

Job listings are quite short and easy to create.  They provide just enough information about you and your job to encourage the right people to call you for more information.  All of our order forms provide space for you to enter information about your jobs.  If you want help with wording your job listing, don't hesitate to give us a call.  If you would like a free preview of the List of Jobs, click here.

What kind of information is contained in a candidate listing?

Candidate listings contain the job type(s) the candidate would consider; the part of the horse industry they are interested in; summarized information about their skills, background, etc.; and their contact information--name, telephone number, email address, etc.  For a free preview of the List of Candidates, click here.

Can I find temporary help through the Equimax system?

Yes.  Each candidate is asked if they would consider temporary work.  If they answer "yes," the letters "TEMP" appear in their listing.  We also have candidates who are looking for specific types of temporary employment such as summer jobs.
